Short answer

Malta Digital uses this website launch checklist before any go-live: final pages, tested forms, SSL, privacy and cookie notice, DNS plan, and a named owner for the first 30 days. Web design in Malta packages start from €990, €2,490 and €4,900. Score your readiness below, then see our web design in Malta service if you want us to launch it with you.

Key takeaways

  • What is a website launch checklist? A written list you finish before DNS points at the new site: content, forms, SSL, privacy, redirects, tracking and a named owner for week one. Malta Digital builds this into every website project.
  • How long does a website launch take in Malta? Once content is ready, a focused Professional Website targets a first version in 24–48 hours. Larger Business and Growth sites follow the timeline in your proposal. DNS itself can take minutes to 48 hours to settle.
  • What does a .mt domain cost at NIC(Malta)? Checked on 6 November 2026 on nic.org.mt: a new .mt or .com.mt is €20 in year one (€10 set-up + €10 annual), then €10 a year or €18 for two years. Fees are shown inclusive of VAT on the NIC page. Registrars may charge differently.

Why launch fails

Most go-lives break on small misses.

A new site can look finished and still fail on day one. The form never arrives. HTTPS shows a warning. The old /contact URL 404s. Privacy is missing from the footer. None of that is hard to prevent. It needs a checklist and one calm owner.

This guide is the website launch checklist we use at Malta Digital for businesses in Malta and Gozo. It sits next to our web design in Malta packages and the website cost in Malta guide. Score yourself in the tool below before you point DNS.

Example scene A Sliema clinic rebuilds its site over a weekend. Monday morning the new homepage looks sharp, but the enquiry form still points at an old Netlify form name. Three leads vanish. A five-minute test send on Friday would have caught it.

Readiness score

Interactive checklist (nothing is sent).

Tick what is truly done. The score weights content, tech, legal, SEO basics and ownership the same way we brief launches. It is a planning score, not a certificate.

Aim for 85+ before cutover. Under 60 usually means content or forms are still open. Bring the score to your call if you apply for a website.

Content & assets

Freeze words and photos before tech.

Launch day is the wrong time to rewrite the about page. Freeze content three days early when you can. That means final services, prices you are willing to publish, team names, and photos that are already compressed.

Check every page on a phone about 375px wide. Tap the form. Open the menu. Confirm the logo links home. If a section feels empty, cut it or finish it. Empty “coming soon” blocks look unfinished to buyers.

Assets to stage on the host before DNS moves: final WebP or compressed images, favicon, social share image (1200×630), and a simple 404 page. Keep a zip of the old site if this is a redesign.

Tech pass

Domain, DNS, SSL and redirects.

Tech is where rushed launches hurt. Write the DNS plan before go-live day. Note the registrar, the host, TTL, and who can change records.

For a Malta business, a .mt or .com.mt from NIC(Malta) costs €20 in year one and €10 a year after (fee table version 4.1 dated 1 August 2025, opened 6 November 2026). .org.mt and .edu.mt differ. Registrars set their own retail prices. SSL must work on the host before you point the public domain when the host allows it.

If you redesign, map old URLs to new ones. /contact/, /about/ and service pages often keep rankings. Test redirects after cutover. Speed-check the homepage and the form page on mobile.

EXAMPLE A Gozo workshop moves from an old .com host to a new build. They lower TTL to 300 seconds the day before, publish the new site on a temporary host URL, prove SSL and forms, then switch A/CNAME records at 09:00. Search engines see HTTPS within the hour. Labelled example only - your registrar steps differ.

Legal & cookies

Privacy that matches what you load.

If your site takes names, emails or phone numbers, you are processing personal data. Publish a privacy notice people can find from the footer. Say who you are, why you collect data, how long you keep it, and how to contact you.

Malta’s Information and Data Protection Commissioner (IDPC) is the local authority for GDPR topics. Opened 6 November 2026. This page is not legal advice. Match cookie and tracking text to scripts you really load. On malta-digital.com we delay the Meta pixel until interaction or a short wait - never invent a notice for tools you do not use.

Forms should go to a monitored inbox. Our website applications email johnny@malta-digital.com and urosnocode@gmail.com. Your site needs the same clarity: who replies, and how fast.

Go-live + 30 days

Cutover day and the first month.

On go-live day: publish the final build, switch DNS, test the homepage, one service page, the form, and HTTPS. Send yourself a test enquiry. Check the thank-you page. Spot-check 404s for old links you care about.

First 30 days: fix typos the same day, update hours and offers, confirm Google Business Profile points at the new URL, and watch form spam. Plan one content update (FAQ, case photo, or seasonal note) so the site does not freeze on launch day copy.

Worked EXAMPLE (labelled): a five-page Professional Website at €990 plus a €20 .mt first year and €8/month hosting is about €1,106 in year-one cash before your own time. A rushed launch that needs a €400 emergency rebuild in week two costs more than finishing the checklist first. Numbers are an example, not a quote.

Proof

A site that captures enquiries cleanly.

We do not invent website client results. Here is approved lead-gen proof from our ads work: 478 leads at €9.68 average in a tracked campaign (name withheld). A launch-ready website matters because every one of those leads still needs a fast, clear form and thank-you path. Demos and case studies show design and process; they are not a promise for your launch.

A few straight answers

What you might be wondering.

What is a website launch checklist?

A written list you finish before DNS points at the new site: content, forms, SSL, privacy, redirects, tracking and a named owner for week one. Malta Digital builds this into every website project.

How long does a website launch take in Malta?

Once content is ready, a focused Professional Website targets a first version in 24–48 hours. Larger Business and Growth sites follow the timeline in your proposal. DNS itself can take minutes to 48 hours to settle.

What does a .mt domain cost at NIC(Malta)?

Do I need a privacy notice and cookies text?

If you collect personal data (forms, analytics, ads pixels), you need a clear privacy notice and honest tracking information. Malta’s IDPC publishes GDPR guidance for controllers. Match the notice to what you actually load.

What should happen on go-live day?

Lower DNS TTL the day before if you can, publish the final build on the host with SSL, point the domain, test forms and key pages on a phone, then watch for 404s. Keep a rollback path for 48 hours.

How much do Malta Digital websites cost?

Professional from €990, Business from €2,490, Growth from €4,900. Online shops and custom systems are quoted separately. Custom systems start from €7,500.

Who should own the first 30 days after launch?

Name one person. They watch form inbox, fix typos, update hours and offers, and confirm Google Business Profile points at the new URL. Without an owner, small issues sit for weeks.
