Are Facebook Ads Worth It for a Small Business in Malta?

Are Facebook
ads worth it?
Our honest view.

Facebook and Instagram ads are worth it when four things are in place: an offer people already want, room to serve more customers, tracking that shows what sold, and someone who replies quickly. Without those, ads usually make the problem more expensive. Here is how to check before you spend.

When ads work

When Facebook ads
are usually worth it.

Ads do not create a business. They put an offer in front of more of the right people. So the question is less “do Facebook ads work?” and more “is my business ready for more customers?”

A proven offer

People already buy from you, and you know why. Ads multiply what already works. They rarely fix an offer nobody wants.

Room for more

You can take on more customers, bookings or orders without the quality slipping or the team burning out.

Tracking in place

You can see which ads led to enquiries and sales, not just clicks. Without that, every decision is a guess.

Fast follow-up

Someone replies to enquiries quickly. Paid clicks that wait two days for an answer are mostly wasted.

If all four are true, Facebook and Instagram ads are one of the most direct ways to grow a small business in Malta. You can reach people by location and interest, test offers quickly and see results within weeks.

When to wait

When it is better
to wait.

Sometimes the honest answer is “not yet”. These are the signs.

  • You are still testing whether people want the product or service at all.
  • Your margins are so thin that paying to win a customer leaves nothing.
  • You are already fully booked and cannot take on more work.
  • Nobody has time to reply to messages, calls or forms.
  • The website is slow, broken on phones or unclear about what to do next.

If several of these apply, fix them first. It costs less, and the ads will work better afterwards. If advertising is not the right next step, we’ll say so.

How to judge it

How to tell if ads are
paying for themselves.

The useful question is not what a click or a like costs. It is what came back for what you spent. That needs a few numbers you already know better than anyone.

01

Know what a customer is worth

Work out the profit from a typical sale, and how often customers come back.

02

Set your own limit

Decide how much you could spend to win one customer and still be happy. This is your number, not a market average.

03

Track enquiries and sales

Connect the Meta Pixel and your forms, bookings or shop, so results are counted properly.

04

Judge over 90 days

Give campaigns time to learn and to be improved. One week tells you very little.

Remember that Meta’s figures are platform-attributed. They count sales Meta can connect to an ad, which is useful but not the same as profit. Compare them with your own sales records, bank deposits and bookings.

Signs it is working

Signs your ads
are working.

Meta’s dashboard is not the only place to look. The strongest signs show up in your business.

More of the right enquiries

Not just more messages, but people asking about the thing you advertised, in the area you serve.

Sales you can trace

Tracked purchases or bookings in Ads Manager that match what you see in your own system.

Steady results over weeks

One good day can be luck. A steady pattern over several weeks is a signal.

Customers mention the ad

Ask new customers how they found you. In a small market, this simple question is surprisingly reliable.

If results look good in Ads Manager but you do not feel it in the business, check the tracking and the follow-up before spending more.

What it costs

What you need
to budget.

There are two separate costs. Ad spend, which you pay directly to Meta. And management, if someone runs the ads for you. Our Meta ads management starts from €1,250 a month, excluding VAT, with ad spend on top.

A starting ad budget should be one you can run long enough to learn from, without needing it back in the first month. We recommend a figure in the free review, based on your offer, audience and goals, rather than quoting a general number.

Hidden costs to ask about. Creative (images and video), a landing page, tracking setup and who owns the ad account. Clarify all four before you sign with anyone.

Malta realities

What is different about
advertising in Malta.

A small audience

The same people see your ads more often. Plan for regular new creative, or results wear out.

Seasons

Summer brings tourists for some sectors. Q4 brings more advertisers competing for attention before Christmas. Budgets and offers should follow your own season.

Word of mouth

In Malta, people ask friends first. Ads work best when they support a good reputation, not replace it.

Gozo

Gozo businesses often need two audiences: Gozo residents, and people in Malta or abroad planning a visit.

Yourself or with help

Run it yourself,
or get help?

Both can work. The right choice depends on your time, your budget and how much you enjoy the detail.

Doing it yourself

Saves the fee. Costs your time.

Good for testing a simple offer with a small budget. Expect to spend evenings learning Ads Manager, making creative and checking results. Mistakes are paid for in ad spend.

Getting help

Costs a fee. Saves time and guesswork.

Makes sense once the offer is proven and your time is better spent running the business. Ask who owns the account, what is included and how results are reported.

Whichever you choose, keep the ad account, Page and data in your business’s name. That way you keep the history and the audiences if anything changes.

What results can look like

What results
can look like.

Here are three examples from campaigns we manage, as tracked in Meta Ads Manager. They are not a promise. They show what is possible when the offer, tracking and follow-up are in place.

1 Jan – 28 May 2026

€95,470.88 in Meta ad spend. €573,222.05 in tracked sales.

Tracked in Meta Ads Manager.

2025

€217,048 in tracked sales. 9,384 website sales.

Tracked across the year in Meta Ads Manager.

1–9 June 2026

€6,523.92 in spend. €38,550.54 in tracked sales.

Nine days of campaigns, tracked in Meta Ads Manager.

Platform-attributed purchase value is not profit. These examples are not a guarantee of future results.

Before you start

A checklist before
you spend anything.

  • You can describe your offer in one sentence, and people already buy it.
  • You know roughly what a new customer is worth to you.
  • You can handle more enquiries, bookings or orders.
  • Someone will reply to new enquiries the same day.
  • Your website or landing page works well on a phone.
  • The Meta Pixel is installed, or you are ready to install it.
  • You can commit to around 90 days before judging.

If you can tick most of these, ads are likely worth testing properly. If not, start with the gaps.

A few straight answers

What you might be wondering.

Are Facebook ads worth it for a small business?

They are when you have a proven offer, room for more customers, tracking and fast follow-up. Without those, ads tend to make existing problems more expensive.

How long do Facebook ads take to work?

Some campaigns show useful signs within weeks, but an initial 90-day period gives time to test, learn and improve before judging.

How much should a small business spend on Facebook ads?

There is no single right number. Start with a budget you can run long enough to learn from. We recommend a working budget in the free review, based on your offer and goals.

Can I run Facebook ads myself?

Yes. Many owners start that way. It saves the management fee but costs time, and mistakes cost ad spend. Hiring help makes sense once the offer is proven and time is the bottleneck.

Do you guarantee results?

No. Results depend on your offer, market, budget, website and follow-up. We agree the work, track what we can measure and explain what the results mean.
