Grants & funding · Guide
For digital projects in Malta, the main schemes in October 2026 are Digitalise your SME (software, cloud and AI, up to €128,400) and Micro Invest (a tax credit that names websites and software). Smaller fondi.eu schemes part-fund marketing strategies and business reviews. Each has its own rules and funding body, so check the official page before you plan around one.

At a glance
Run by the Measures and Support Division through fondi.eu. A grant of €25,000 to €120,000, plus a 7% flat rate, so up to €128,400. Up to 50% of eligible costs in Malta and 60% in Gozo. For software, cloud, cyber security and AI. Next cut-off: 16 October 2026.
Run by Malta Enterprise. A tax credit of up to 65% of eligible costs, or up to 85% in Gozo, for businesses employing 1 to 50 people. Covers costs from 1 January 2026, including software and websites. Applications open from 1 January 2027.
The Malta Enterprise page lists 25 November 2026 as the late-submission date for costs incurred in 2025.
Through fondi.eu. Up to €10,000 towards a marketing strategy written by a registered external provider. It pays for the strategy, not ad spend.
Through fondi.eu. A lump sum of €4,000, 80% of eligible costs, for a business plan or a process and systems review by a registered consultant.
Through fondi.eu. For productive investment such as equipment. Projects focused on digitalisation are directed to Digitalise your SME instead.
From the Ministry for Gozo and Planning. Up to 65% of a digital marketing campaign, capped at €8,000, for licensed accommodation in Gozo.
Digitalise your SME
This is the main grant for a serious system: custom software, a CRM, a booking platform, cloud services, cyber security or AI. It is run by the Measures and Support Division through fondi.eu, not by Malta Enterprise.
The minimum grant is €25,000, so at 50% the eligible project needs to be at least €50,000 in Malta.
Off-the-shelf and custom software, cloud, cyber security, IoT, analytics, AI and related hardware.
“Fees relating to design, marketing and any other consultancy work”, VAT, and maintenance agreements, among others.
Cut-offs on 16 October, 30 October, 13 November, 30 November and 14 December 2026. Work may only start after the grant agreement is signed.
Micro Invest
Micro Invest is a tax credit from Malta Enterprise. Instead of a cash payment, approved support reduces the tax your business pays. The 2026–2030 version covers costs incurred from 1 January 2026. The Malta Enterprise page says applications can be submitted from 1 January 2027.
Undertakings employing at least 1 and not more than 50 people, and eligible for de minimis aid.
A tax credit of up to 65% of eligible costs, rising to up to 85% for businesses operating from Gozo.
€65,000 per applicant over three years, plus €20,000 for businesses operating from Gozo, family businesses, social enterprises or female-owned businesses.
Packaged software; setting up SaaS, including the first 12 months of licences; and “development and customisation costs for software systems, websites and digital applications”.
For development work, you need “an agreement signed prior to the commencement of the works specifying the functionality which will be developed”. Taxes such as VAT are deducted from the eligible amount.
Strategy and advice
Two fondi.eu schemes pay for thinking before spending. Both require a provider registered with the funding body.
For micro and small enterprises. Up to €10,000, at 60% for businesses up to five years old and 50% for older ones. The strategy can cover social media, paid ads and the role of your website. It does not pay for the ads or the website build.
A €4,000 lump sum for a business plan or a process and systems review. The review is meant to include a digitalisation strategy, so it can be a sensible first step before a larger project.
Gozo
The Invest Gozo page for the accommodation scheme does not show a closing date, so confirm it is open before you plan a campaign around it.

Common mistakes
We can quote, write the technical specification for a software project and explain how it fits the scheme rules. We do not decide eligibility and cannot promise approval.
A few straight answers
Micro Invest names “software systems, websites and digital applications” as eligible development costs, as a tax credit. Digitalise your SME does not list websites, and excludes design and marketing fees.
Several bodies. Digitalise your SME, SME Enhance, Marketing Strategy and Business Reports are run through fondi.eu by the Measures and Support Division. Micro Invest is run by Malta Enterprise. Some Gozo schemes come from the Ministry for Gozo and Planning.
Generally not for the same costs. Digitalise your SME applicants declare they have not received, and will not seek, other public funding for the same activities. Check each scheme’s rules.
Yes. Digitalise your SME pays up to 60% in Gozo, Micro Invest offers up to 85%, and there is a marketing scheme for Gozo accommodation.
No. fondi.eu marks the old e-Commerce grant as closed. For an online shop, look at Micro Invest or, for a large project, Digitalise your SME.
We do not submit applications. For a software or website project, we can quote, write the technical specification and explain how the project fits the scheme rules.
